5th Grade Religion
The 5th Grade Religion class uses the textbook series Our Sunday Visitor...Call to Faith. In addition to the text, the students participate in weekly Bible work and prepare for the weekly school mass with a subscription to Venture magazine. Living your faith is very important at St. Isidore School and 5th graders complete a Faith in Action exercise at the end of each unit. These activities are based on the Catholic Social Teaching Principles. The children enjoy supporting and participating in all parish events. Teachers and parents working together sharing their Catholic faith with the next generation.
5th Grade Language Arts (Reading, Writing, Spelling, and Vocabulary)
The 5th Grade Reading program is supported by the McGraw Hill Wonders Literature Anthology, which is a multi textbook series based on the Diocesan Standards. Students complete six units. Quarterly Independent Reading Assignments are given and Sustained Silent Reading opportunities are part of the classroom schedule along with library visits. Students are also expected to participate in a teacher created summer reading program.
5th Grade Social Studies
The 5th Grade students at St. Isidore School have the unique opportunity of spending an entire year in the study of world geography. The year starts with unit on map skills to prepare for a year long Trip Around the World. The students visit countries on each continent and show their learning with end of unit projects and celebrations. Students track their travels with passports and are encouraged to notice that although we differ from those in other countries we share many things in common!
